Okinawa Shorin Ryu Karate Do Bukenkan of India is headed by the President of the Association Kyoshi S.R.Arun 8th Dan, the eldest son of Hanshi S. Rajamani 10th Dan which is affiliated to World headquarters at Okinawa and also the member of World Karate Confederation (WKC).
Like father, Like son. Kyoshi S.R.Arun is an athlete and had keen interest on Martial arts like his father Hanshi S.Rajamani. Following his father's footsteps, Kyoshi S.R Arun started pursuing the path of Karate at a very young age.
With interest and involvement along with dedication and hardwork definitely brings out success, that's his motto. Kyoshi S.R. Arun 8th Dan has participated in the World tournament and trained at the headquarters in Okinawa in the years 1997,2003, 2005 and 2009
Seventy three years ago when he was but eight years old Hanshi S. Rajamani 10th Dan started training in the South Indian martial art of Silambam under the tutelage of his maternal uncle Aasan Sadaimal Nadar. It was this little spark that ignited his passion for the Japanese art of Karate at the age of 31. Despite his age, he achieved great heights in Karate.
Hanshi S. Rajamani 10th Dan has trained under Hanshi Katsuo Shiroma in his dojo at Okinawa. He has attended the world tournament on his invitation and has also had the privilege of standing as a referee in the year 2003 and 2009. Honouring the relationship, Hanshi Katsuo Shiroma has visited India to conduct camps and trained students in all the dojo’s in the years 2002, 2004 and 2010.
Hanshi S. Rajamani 10th Dan has given training to students at all his dojos in India. He also welcomes students to train at the Head Dojo at Chennai. He has two sons who also train in the art of Karate and Kobudo. His elder son, Kyoshi S.R. Arun 8th Dan is the President of the association. His younger son, Shihandai S.R. Jayan 5th Dan currently resides in New Jersey and is also a practitioner of Karate & Kobudo. Hanshi S. Rajamani's daughter in law, Shihandai Uma maheswari Arun also participated in the Okinawa World Tournament in 2009 and is also a Karate & Kobudo instructor. Hanshi S. Rajamani’s Grand Daughter and Grand Son also train in the art of Karate. It is important to mention that Hanshi S. Rajamani is very dedicated to his students. In his view his students are his family. Such is his dedication to the art of Karate.
Hanshi Katsuo Shiroma was born in the legendary martial art capital of Okinawa.He started training in Karate at the age of 14. His first teacher was Shima Masau san under whom he learnt the basics for five years and later he became a dedicated pupil of Hanshi Shoshin Nagamine. Hanshi Katsuo Shiroma has also trained in the art of Kobudo under Hanshi Eisuke Akamine.
Hanshi Shoshin Nagamine 10th Dan,(1907-1997) was the founder of Shorin Ryu Matsubayashi Karate Do. He studied under a young man named Ankichi Arakaki. In 1931 he joined the Kadena police force and till 1935 took Karate instructions from Chotoku Kyan Sensei. In 1936, he studied Karate at the Tokyo Police Academy under Chokimotobu Sensei who played a major role in the Nagamine Sensei’s development. Having trained in Karate for 75 years of his 90 years Nagamine Sensei has a great deal of world recognition and he also had the honour of being the first president of the Okinawa Shorin Ryu Karate Association.Nagamine Sensei gave great importance to the accurate performance of Katas and he believed that real ‘kumite’ lies in the application of Kata movements.
